Requirements¶
AutoCAD¶
- Full AutoCAD (Windows). AutoCAD LT is not supported: it cannot run VBA macros.
- Versions: AutoCAD 2010 up to the current releases (2021, 2023, 2024 and 2025 verified by our support), 32 or 64 bit.
- Works with AutoCAD in English or any other language, and with Civil 3D (verified on Civil 3D 2025).
progeCAD, BricsCAD, ZWCAD, GstarCAD, nanoCAD
Auto Cross Section is an AutoCAD VBA project (.dvb file). Alternative CAD programs
cannot load .dvb files and are not supported, even when they ship their own VBA.
AutoCAD VBA module (VBA Enabler)¶
Since release 2010 AutoCAD no longer installs the VBA module: it is a free, separate download from Autodesk and must match your AutoCAD version (for example "VBA Enabler for AutoCAD 2024" for AutoCAD 2024).
- Autodesk page: Download the Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications Module for AutoCAD
- Close AutoCAD before installing the module, then start it again.
To check whether the module is installed, type VBAIDE at the AutoCAD command line and
press Enter. If the Visual Basic editor opens, the module is there; if a message such as
"The VBA module is not installed" appears (with the download link), install it.
Drawing¶
- Contour lines must be entities that carry an elevation: polylines whose Elevation property equals the contour height, or 3D polylines. Polylines at elevation 0 give a flat profile.
- Entities must be on layers that are on: layers that are off are ignored (useful to exclude roads, buildings, etc.).
- Drawing units: metres. The title-block scales (see Settings) assume a drawing in metres.
Windows settings¶
The decimal separator of the regional settings can be either the point or the comma. If the elevations in the title block look wrong, try setting the point as decimal separator (Control Panel › Region › Additional settings).
