AI Assistant

The GM3D AI Assistant lets you build the 3D geotechnical model by writing in plain language: describe what you want, in your own words, and the model builds itself.

Open it from the AI Assistant button in the ribbon. The panel stays open on the side, so you can watch the 3D model update as you type.

How it works

The flow is always the same, in three steps:

  1. You write — describe the scene the way you would tell a colleague.
  2. The AI understands — it recognises your intent and picks the right commands, with parameters.
  3. GM3D builds — it runs and draws: exact, deterministic, repeatable geometry.

The role of the AI

The AI interprets language, it never touches the geometry. The model is always built by the same GM3D engine — the one already validated. This guarantees precise, repeatable results: the assistant does not "invent" geometry, it only chooses which commands to run.

You don't need the exact phrase: write in your own words. The assistant grasps the meaning, handles context ("the front", "all sides", "a bit forward") and chains several actions in one go.

Available commands

Terrain

Water table & water

Boreholes & stratigraphy

Importing boreholes from .edp files

The .edp format is the GeoStru interchange format: from Dynamic Probing or Static Probing you export a test with "Export test for other GeoStru software" (one file per test). Put them in a folder and ask "import the boreholes from the .edp folder": the assistant opens a folder picker and imports all boreholes at once, each placed at its plane coordinates and with its own layers.

Geotechnical sections

Once the 3D stratigraphy is built, you can cut sections to read the layers inside the model.

Stratigraphy first

Sections cut the stratigraphic solid: build the 3D stratigraphy first ("build the 3D stratigraphy"), then ask for the section. Activating a section switches GM3D to the "Show 3D sections" view.

Structures

Type Result

Terrain colour & gradient

A sample sequence

You can also chain commands to build a full scene, one line at a time:

  1. create a terrain with a winding river and two hollows
  2. add a water table that reveals the river
  3. add 4 well-spaced boreholes with 3 m of clay, 5 of sand and 4 of gravel
  4. build the stratigraphy

Tip

The examples in the tables are only a starting point. Try writing the request in your own words: the assistant is designed to understand meaning, not a rigid syntax.
